Be still my heart. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has arrived in La Jolla! Scoops is exclusively serving my favorite brand of ice cream. I can’t contain my excitement! Stop what you’re doing and head over for a mini flight.
This is quintessential summer in San Diego. If you haven’t experienced Bayside Summer Nights, you must go! Something sweet for you & your Valentine! I found these adorable heart shaped tart pans but I’ve also used a 9 inch round fluted nonstick tart pan for the same recipe. Happy February!
2 cups/24 cookies Lorna Doone cookies finely ground (Optional: 3 cups/40 cookies if you prefer thicker crust)
5 tbsp dairy free butter alternative, melted (Smart Balance Original)
10 oz semi sweet chocolate chips (Enjoy Life dairy free)
14 oz coconut cream
1/4 tsp vanilla (Nielsen Massey)
1/2 tsp sea salt
2 eggs, beaten
Pam baking spray with flour
Preheat oven to 350. Combine ground cookies and butter alternative in a bowl. Spray tart pan generously with baking spray. Transfer cookie mixture to tart pan and press evenly along bottom and sides. Set aside.
Bring coconut cream to a boil in a medium pot. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips, stir until mixture combined. Stir in vanilla, sea salt, eggs.
Pour chocolate mixture into tart crust. Bake 25 minutes. Cool completely before removing tart from pan, at least 30 minutes. Serve same day or refrigerate and serve the following day.
Don’t forget to add love, it makes all the difference!
Looking for something to do on Valentine’s Day? I found a few movie events that might tug on your heart strings!
February 14th, 2018
Roman Holiday at Los Angeles Theater
Lady and the Tramp at El Capitan Theatre with a candlelit dinner from Miceli’s
Bonnie & Clyde at The Headquarters Outdoor Courtyard
Everyone is looking for tickets to this show! Much to my surprise, not everyone is aware of the Hamilton lottery. You can enter easily through the Hamilton App or luckyseat.com. If you win the lottery, you can choose either one or two tickets, $10 per ticket. The lottery opens at 11am two days prior to the performance. Make sure to enable the notifications & good luck!
Tree lightings are the perfect way to start off the holiday season! Here are a few around Southern California.

If you’re looking for Fall colors in Southern California, Palomar Mountain is the place to go. Located an hour and a half outside of San Diego or two and a half hours outside of Los Angeles, this State Park offers gorgeous views and a spectacular forest to walk through. My favorite trail is the Doane Nature Trail, where I found the most majestic Incense Cedar Tree.
Entrance to the park is $10 per vehicle. There were many motorcyclists on the road leading up the mountain, drive with caution. Bring layers of clothing. Definitely bring food & water with you. There are no gas stations on the mountain, so fill up before you head up!
Enjoy your hike!
